Why mesh matters: a direct point-to-point link depends on two endpoints completing the radio path. A mesh network can add another possible path through participating J25 nodes—up to two relay nodes where the network configuration, node positions and field conditions allow it.
For procurement teams, this changes the evaluation question. The goal is not only to ask how far two devices can communicate in open space. The goal is to test whether the planned team layout supports the required PTT, message and location workflows along the real operating route.

How range should be discussed with buyers
The cleanest buyer explanation is direct: ideal open-terrain communication can reach up to 10 km in plains, open line-of-sight routes or areas with limited hills, urban-obstructed field testing has reached around 5 km, and mesh relay should be evaluated with up to two participating J25 nodes placed on the real route. This is more defensible than promising one universal range.

Mesh communication questions from buyers
Does every communication always use a relay node?
No. A direct local path may be available. A participating node becomes relevant when the configured network can use another path through an equipped J25.
Does adding more J25 devices automatically increase range?
No. A relay node helps only when its position, configuration and field conditions contribute a useful path. ChatField can evaluate up to two participating relay nodes, but more devices without a useful layout do not guarantee better coverage.
Is LoRa mesh communication the same as public internet?
No. ChatField uses a local communication network between participating J25 devices. The mesh does not provide public internet access.
