Can J25 FCC Evidence Be Applied to J28? A Buyer Boundary Guide

Prepared by the ChatField Editorial Team. Evidence reviewed August 18, 2026.

Public compliance evidence can increase buyer confidence only when it is connected to the exact product being evaluated. Current public J25 evidence includes FCC ID 2BVP9-J25. That identifier should not be presented as proof for a separate J28, modified radio design or future crowdfunding product unless the responsible parties have verified the model relationship and authorization scope.

Short answer

No buyer should automatically apply J25 FCC evidence to J28. Ask for the exact model name, hardware, radio configuration, label, grant and controlled reports for the product being offered. Until that evidence exists and matches, describe J25 evidence as J25 evidence and the J28 program as a separate development status.

What an FCC ID identifies

The FCC equipment-authorization system associates a grantee code and product code with authorized equipment records. The FCC OET Knowledge Database publishes procedures and measurement guidance for manufacturers, laboratories and certification bodies.

An FCC identifier is not a general brand badge. It should not be copied onto materially different hardware or used to imply approval of an unverified product.

What FCC ID 2BVP9-J25 supports

The identifier provides a public route to J25-specific grants and exhibits associated with the authorized equipment. Buyers can compare the model identity, frequency information, labels and available reports with the unit and documents being offered.

Review the J25 specifications and evidence page and request the controlled source documents for the quotation.

What it does not prove

  • That J28 has the same authorization
  • That a changed antenna, radio, enclosure or battery remains covered
  • That every private-label version is authorized
  • That the product is approved in every country
  • That a field route will reach a stated distance
  • That the application, mesh capacity or security is certified
  • That a future product is in mass production

Current J25 range evidence includes 5 km in urban-obstructed testing and up to 10 km in ideal open terrain. Those are J25 evidence statements and should not be transferred to J28 without J28-specific verification.

Why crowdfunding pages need a model-evidence table

A campaign may show an existing product, prototype, future design and development roadmap on the same page. Buyers need to know which photograph, test, certification and delivery statement belongs to which model.

Evidence item J25 status J28 or future product status
FCC identifier 2BVP9-J25 Require separate verified evidence
Range evidence 5 km urban-obstructed; up to 10 km ideal open terrain Do not transfer without model-specific testing
Application workflow Phone interface, Bluetooth to J25, local LoRa mesh Confirm separately
Production and delivery Quote current scope State development and delivery evidence separately

Ask for the evidence chain

  1. Exact product and model identifier
  2. Hardware and radio configuration
  3. FCC grant and applicable exhibits
  4. Label and user information
  5. Test-unit relationship to production unit
  6. Changes after the test date
  7. Destination-market requirements
  8. Responsible party for compliance and support

The ChatField compliance page should be used to obtain current product evidence, not to infer future-model approval.

Use precise campaign language

Prefer: “Current J25 public evidence includes FCC ID 2BVP9-J25.” Avoid: “ChatField products are FCC certified” when the statement could be read to cover every model.

Prefer: “J28 development information is separate and subject to model-specific verification.” Avoid transferring J25 test photos, range figures or grants without a clear label.

Buyer checklist

  • Model on campaign, quotation, label and report matches
  • FCC ID belongs to the offered equipment
  • Hardware changes are disclosed
  • Range and workflow evidence names the tested model
  • Destination market is stated
  • Development and production status are separated
  • Future-model claims have their own evidence
